Children, Play and Nature

The play movement is joining forces with the movement to connect children with nature to encourage children and families to go out and play. Outdoors can range from dense urban spaces with sky and clouds above to expansive wilderness settings. Most outdoor play takes place in neighborhoods, local playgrounds, and parks. At present the Alliance is meeting with nature and play organizations, parks departments, landscape architects, and government officials, among others, to support outdoor play through appropriate settings, programs, and policies. It is also working on a toolkit regarding outdoor play to be completed by summer 2009. In preparation it has compiled a resource sheet on outdoor play that features many organizations working on this issue.
